Francis "Ike" R. Ericksen, 91, of Comfrey died Nov. 5, 2020, at New Ulm Medical Center. A private funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey with Jerome Klotz officiating. Interment will be at New Hope Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Comfrey. A private visitation will be held Thursday at the church for one hour prior to the service. Sturm Funeral Home of Sleepy Eye is handling the funeral arrangements. Francis R. Ericksen was born Oct. 28, 1929, in Prairie-ville Township near Evan to Jens and Louise (Guhlke) Ericksen. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Evan. He attended Sleepy Eye Public School until the eighth grade and then Comfrey Public School. He stayed home and worked on the farm while his brother was in the service. In 1947, Ike married LaDonna Mae Fredin in St. Paul. They lived in Comfrey and were blessed with four children. For 48 years, Ike worked for Carlson Brothers Construction Co., operating heavy machinery. Summers took Ike to construction jobs up north, during which time he often brought his family to enjoy the lakes and northern Minnesota. Ike also drove school bus. Ike was a lifetime member of Faith Lutheran Church and, following the tornado, New Hope Lutheran Church. In younger years, he and his children would spend the day bullhead fishing at near-by lakes. In the fall, he hunted pheasant. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends in "The Shed." Later on, he enjoyed watching baseball and football games and generally laid friendly wagers on the underdog. while proudly, jokingly wearing his Green Bay Packers jacket around time. He also enjoyed stratch-offs at Cenex, while chatting with workers, watching "The Price is Right," passing time by talking to individuals and receiving visits from his children and grandchildren. Spending time with his wife was important as they spent date nights at Jackpot and enjoyed watching such TV shows as "Molly B" and Bandwagon's polka music. Ike will be remembered as a joker and teaser and having an ability to connect with people. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diana Pidde; and siblings: Gloria Wall Teufel, Roland "Butch" Ericksen and Marion Peitz. He is survived by his wife, LaDonna of Comfrey; children: Gerald "Jerry" (LaDonna "Donna") Ericksen of Comfrey, Loreen "Laurie" Haugen of Windom and Janet Hansen of Sleepy Eye; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
