Lila Musegades, 84, of Rio Rancho, N.M., formerly of Jeffers, died June 24, 2020, just three days shy of her 85th birthday.
Lila Marie Marion Schmidt was born June 27, 1935, to Walter and Edna (Rand) Schmidt in Cottonwood County. She attended Cottonwood County Rural School District 44 before graduating with honors from Jeffers High School in 1953.
After graduation, she moved to Windom, where she worked as an operator for about five years at Ma Bell Telephone Company.
In 1958, Lila married Gerald Musegades at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. They moved to Sioux Falls where she worked as a clerk at S.S. Kresge while Gerald finished school at Augustana College.
In their early years of marriage, they lived in Alpha and Willmar, then relocated to Tucson, Ariz., where Lila focused on raising their family. The family relocated back to Sioux Falls, where she began a 20-year career at K-Mart. She retired from K-Mart at age 60 to help raise her grandchildren.
Later, they moved to New Mexico (Hobbs, Albuquerque and Rio Rancho).
Lila was involved in her churches, from singing in the choir to teaching Sunday School.
She also enjoyed traveling and started collecting bells from the places they visited. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making afghans, baby blankets and Barbie clothes for her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She also enjoyed playing video games, especially with her grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her smile, laugh and hugs.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Rudy, Wilbert, William and Otto; and two sisters, Lorain and Edna.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Gerald; their three children: Alan Musegades of Santa Fe, N.M.; Kari (Curt) Dass of Tyler; and Kyle Musegades of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and eight grandchildren.
