Verlyn Ray

Verlyn Ray, 78, of Windom died June 14, 2020, at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday at 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Windom with Pastor Mike McInnis officiating.
Special music will be provided by Dustin Stevens, pianist; and Laura Williams, vocalist.
Urn bearers will be Jackson Ray, Harper Ray, Ella Ray and Mathea Ray.
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in rural Windom.
Visitation will be Friday at the church for one hour prior to the service.
For those not comfortable being in the church due to social distancing or number of people allowed in, attendees may stay in their vehicle at the church and listen to the service on FM 99.9.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom is handling the funeral arrangements.
Verlan G. Ray was born Oct. 18, 1941, to Clifford and Adeline (Wildfeuer) Ray in Windom. He received his education in Windom Public Schools, graduating in 1959.
In 1962, Verlan married Judi Oddson at United Methodist Church in Windom. They were blessed with two sons, Chad and Marty.
Verlan worked for The Toro Company in Windom for 43 years, retiring in 2003.
He was a charter member of the Windom Lions Club.
Verlan took pride in raising horses and other animals, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He never turned down a game of cards. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing, coaching and watching softball. He also enjoyed afternoons at the Windom Country Club and had solutions to the Minnesota Vikings' annual on-field problems.
Those close to Verlan, will remember him for his inside jokes, nicknames, good-natured teasing, quick wit, giggle and fun-loving spirit.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Robert, Harvey, Eugene and Bruce Ray; an infant sister, Phyllis; a sister, Lois Petron; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law: Marjorie Ray, Don Solem, Randy Kolander, Marvin Bretzman and Robert Petron.
Survivors include his wife, Judi of Windom; sons, Chad (Jami) Ray of Brandon, S.D.; and Marty (Cassie) Ray of Mankato; four grandchildren; two brothers, James (Julee) Ray of Cloquet and Larry (Anne) Ray of Medford, Wis.; five sisters: Eva Solem of Huron, S.D.; Karon Ray and husband John Aumer of Windom; Sharon Bretzman of Bingham Lake; Marilyn (Wayne) Brown of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Marsha Kolander of Jackson; and sisters-in-law, Lorna Ray of Thatcher, Ariz.; and Evelyn Ray of Windom.
