Roberta Ihnen, 90, of Sanborn died Feb. 26, 2020, at United Hospital in St. Paul.
Services were Saturday at United Methodist Church in Sanborn with Pastors Kirk Doering and Dorie Hall officiating.
Interment was at Sanborn City Cemetery.
Sturm Funeral Home of Springfield handled the funeral arrangements.
Roberta Ann Dietz was born Jan. 2, 1930, to Walter and Precious (Johnston) Dietz at her home on Main Street in Sanborn. Starting at age 8, Roberta worked for many years in her parents' store, Dietz Fairway.
After graduating from Sanborn Public School in 1948, she continued her education at St. Olaf College and Mankato Business School. She then worked for the FW Woolworth district office in the Twin Cities for one year.
In 1951, Roberta married Gilbert Ihnen at Friedens Evangelical Reformed Church in New Ulm. The couple moved to his family's farm southwest of Sanborn where they lived nearly their entire lives and raised their three children.
Roberta was a member for over 70 years of the Eastern Star, Sanborn Legion Auxiliary and Sanborn United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed sports, music, dancing and, most of all, spending time with her family. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends at The Rivers in Burnsville, where she has lived for the past seven years.
She will be remembered as very patriotic and enjoyed meeting and visiting with people. She originated and promoted the annual Watermelon Days get-together held at the American Legion in Sanborn. She also was involved in her church and was a Community Club member.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert in 2005; sisters: Remona Petersen, Ruth McCrary, Bernice Engeswick, Clementine Schroeder and Charlotte Starken; a brother, Wayne Dietz; brothers-in-law: Bert Albertson, Pete Petersen, Dick McCrary, Russell Engeswick and Leander Starken; and brother-in-law/sister-in-law, Palmer and Leone Bush.
Survivors include her children: Mark (Karin) Ihnen of Foley, Shari (Paul) Lindemann of Eagan and Keith (Lori) Ihnen of Mounds View; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Burton (Betty) Dietz of Raleigh, N.C.; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dietz of Anoka.
