Jonathan "John" Menssen, 48, of Windom died Feb. 4, 2020, at his home in Delft.
A Celebration of Life service was Monday at LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom with Pastor Michael Stangeland officiating.
Special music was provided by Carol Mattison, organist.
Casket bearers were Curt Peterson, Brad Just, Tom Myrvold, Dale Hansen, Lee Busswitz and Justin Swenson.
Honorary bearers were Jacoby, Carson and Audrey; Rylee, Callee and Cooper.
Interment was at Highwater Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lamberton.
Jonathan "John" James Menssen was born Aug. 9, 1971, to Kenneth Menssen and Sharon Gunder. He received most of his education through Windom Area Schools.
John worked as a mechanic, farmhand, bull/livestock hauler, in masonry and, most recently, as a custom applicator/equipment operator for Country Pride Cooperative Services.
In 2011, John married Rebecca Sue Swenson at Highwater Lutheran Church in rural Lamberton. They lived in rural Jeffers before later moving to Delft.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing and visiting with friends and family. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children - restoring Oliver tractors with Jacoby and Becky's uncle, spending many hours with Carson in the truck hauling livestock, getting his daily hug from "Little Audrey," playing video games with the boys and family Nerf wars.
He also enjoyed spending time with friends he made while a member of the Freedom Riders.
He was preceded in death by his son, Waylon Menssen; biological father, Ronald Lee Sonnabend; and grandparents, Walter Menssen, and Leslie and Helka Gunder.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Menssen of Delft; children: Victoria (Forrest) Toney of Dickinson, N.D.; stepdaughter, Chelsy Swenson (Andy Jenniges) of Storden; and Jacoby, Carson and Audry, all of Delft; four grandchildren; siblings: James (Courtney) Menssen of Windsor, Colo.; Kaylan (Anthony) Shipman and Ashley (Michael) Lautzenheiser, all of Mesa, Ariz.; Mickie Whelan of Eldon, Mo.; and Tiffney Larson of Lakefield; parents, Kenneth (Jeanne) Menssen of Sherburn; foster mom, Penny Harrington of Miller, Mo.; mother, Sharon Larson of Lakefield; and grandmother, Helen Menssen of Sherburn.
