Robert Hobbs, 69, of Windom died Feb. 4, 2020, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
A Celebration of Life service was Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Windom.
Special music was provided by Deann Steele, organist.
Honorary bearers were Chad Hobbs, Ron Gunerius, Jordan Gunerius and Mike Hobbs.
Military honors were provided by American Legion Post 206 of Windom at the church following the service.
Interment will be at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.
Robert James Hobbs was born Feb. 15, 1950, to James Sr. and Josephine (Baker) Hobbs in Sioux City, Iowa. He grew up in Moville, Iowa and graduated from Climbing Hill High School in 1968.
Robert married Shirley Rozofsky in 1968 in Moville, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Laci, Chad and Gia.
Shortly after their wedding, Robert began serving with the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1970 and returned to New Jersey where he and Shirley lived until 1972.
Robert, Shirley and their children then moved to Windom.
Robert worked most of his life as a direct caretaker for people with special needs. He enjoyed the work before retiring in 2012 after 22 years in the field.
Robert was a member of First United Methodist Church in Windom.
He enjoyed tinkering on almost anything, to see if he could make it run just a little better. He also enjoyed building models, such as balsa airplanes, as well as embroidery and crocheting. He recorded television shows, which allowed him to edit out commercials. He loved music, movies, card games, painting and taking walks.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley Hobbs of Windom; children: Laci Balfour of Minneapolis, Chad Hobbs of Windom and Gia (Ron) Gunerius of Andover; a granddaughter; and a brother, Michael (Melanie) Hobbs of Morningside.
