Alvin Graff, 98, of Jeffers died Feb. 9, 2020, at Sanford Medical Center in Westbrook.
A Celebration of Life service will be held today (Wednesday) at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers with Pastor Harvey Pedersen and Chaplain Noel Wetter officiating.
Special music will be provided by Linda Ebeling, organist; and Reece Bierman, vocal soloist.
Casket bearers will be Justin Graff, Kelly LaFollette, Nathan Graff, Jason Martin, Arlan Graff Jr., and Troy Paplow.
Interment will follow at Jeffers Cemetery in rural Jeffers.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom is handling the funeral arrangements.
Alvin Walter Graff was born Sept. 2, 1921, to Adolph and Alvina (Quiram) Graff at their home in rural Sanborn in Amboy Township. The youngest of 10 children, Alvin grew up on the farm and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn.
Alvin attended District 45 country school "on the hill" and later attended parochial school in Sanborn.
In 1945, Alvin married Lorraine Caroline Christensen at the Christ Lutheran parsonage in Wanda. They recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.
They were blessed with five children: Jane, Merle, Mary, Glen and Arlan.
While living in rural Jeffers, Alvin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers and served on the church council and building committee.
In September 2019, Alvin and Lorraine moved into the Maples in Springfield.
Over the years, Alvin enjoyed traveling with Lorraine to many foreign countries and all 50 states. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing every Sunday night in Worthington for over 30 years. Alvin and Lorraine also enjoyed playing cards with three different clubs and spending time with their family.
He was preceded in death by a son, Merle; and nine siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Lorraine Graff of Springfield, formerly of Jeffers; children: Jane (Gary) LaFollette of Nemo, S.D.; Mary (Don) Christopher of Letcher, S.D.; Glen (ValRee) Graff of Sanborn; and Arlan (Sue) Graff of Northfield; daughter-in-law, Paulette (Terry) Weese of Buffalo; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
