Kenneth "Mike" Meyer, 78, of Windom died Sept. 9, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom.
A Celebration of Life service was Friday at Gathering Church in Bingham Lake with Pastor Steve DeKok officiating.
Special music was provided by members of House Band 1 and 2.
Honorary bearers were current and past members of the Windom Fire Department.
Burial with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 206 of Windom was at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.
LaCanne Family Funeral Home of Windom handled the funeral arrangements.
Kenneth "Mike" William Meyer was born July 14, 1941, to Marvin and Naomi (Tinkey) Meyer in Flandreau, S.D. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran church in Volga, S.D.
Mike grew up in the Volga area and graduated from Volga High School in 1960.
In 1961, Mike married Evelyn Nissen in Pipestone. They were blessed with three daughters and a son - Carolyn, Pamela, Kathy and Dan - before the marriage was later dissolved.
In 1990, Mike married Gertrude Holmes and was blessed with four stepdaughters: Brenda, Sandra, Linda and Rhonda.
Mike was a meat cutter for various establishments for 10 years before purchasing a garbage disposal company, which he operated for 14 years. He also did carpentry work for 10 years, then delivered medical oxygen to patients until he was forced to retire for medical issues.
Mike and Gert operated Just 4-U Auctions for 8½ years until selling the business.
Mike was a member of the National Guard for 22½ years and an avid firefighter for the same amount of time.
He enjoyed playing cards, reading, camping, auction sales and spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Meyer; and a step-great-granddaughter, Stormy Rodriguez.
Survivors include his four children: Carolyn (Jim) Sina of St. Louis Park; Pamela (Mark) Thomas of Jenks, Okla.; and Kathy (Craig) Purrington and Dan Meyer, all of Windom; four stepdaughters: Brenda (Mark) Schenk and Linda (Randy) Loewen, all of Windom; Sandra (John) Madsen of Waseca; and Rhonda Fowler of Jackson; six grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly (Ted) Borstad of Fort Collins, Colo.; and a brother, Thomas (Bev) Meyer of Frederick, Md.
