Caroline R. Johnson, 92, of Brandon, S.D., formerly of Windom, died Aug. 29, 2019, at Bethany Home in Brandon.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m., at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom with Pastors Paul Sajban and Dan Deardoff officiating.
Special music will be provided by Ruth Wohlfeil, organist; and Jean Johnson, vocalist.
Casket bearers will be Paul Johnson, Lesley Johnson, Nick Johnson, Scott Renczykowski, Michele Pfeifle and Jim Renczykowski.
Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., at LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom and continue Saturday at the church for one hour prior to the service.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom is handling the funeral arrangements.
Caroline Ruth Oeltjenbruns was born Jan. 21, 1927, to Fred and Elsie (Stenke) Oeltjenbruns at home, near Mt. Lake, in Carson Township of Cottonwood County. She was baptized and later confirmed at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Lake.
Caroline received her education at District 80E near her family's home before later attending Mt. Lake High School.
In 1948, Caroline married Lawrence W. Johnson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Lake. They farmed near Odin before lating moving to a farm north of Mt. Lake.
In 1963, they bought their farm near Bergen and farmed until retiring in 1988. They moved to Windom and enjoyed 10 winters in Mesa, Ariz., before Lawrence's death in 2002.
In May 2019, Caroline moved to Bethany Home in Brandon, S.D.
A current member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom, Caroline was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Lake in earlier years. While a member of Trinity Lutheran, she was a member of the Altar Guild, Ladies Aid, Circle and Golden Age. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Caroline also volunteered for Adult Basic Education and worked at the Pine Inn in Windom for a short time.
She enjoyed flower gardening, hand work, playing cards and Scrabble, cooking, baking, reading and working many different puzzles.
In addition to her husband Lawrence, Caroline was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond (Verna) Oeltjenbruns; and a brother-in-law, Harvey Dick.
Survivors include her two children, Shirley (James) Dunlap of Renner, S.D.; and Steven (Jean) Johnson of Windom; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Dick of Huron, S.D.
