James Swanson

James L. "Jim" Swanson, 80, of rural Mt. Lake died July 30, 2019, at Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington.
A Celebration of Life service was Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Lake with Pastor Rick Bremseth officiating.
Burial was at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Kimball Township of rural Alpha.
Kramer Family Funeral Home of Sherburn handled the funeral arrangements.
James Leonard Swanson was born Jan. 27, 1939, to Godfried and Margaret (Hansen) Swanson in St. James. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dunnell.
He received his education in Sherburn, graduating in 1956.
Jim enjoyed going to the movie theater, bowling alley and roller skating where he met Dianne. They were married in 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome.
They moved onto the current farm site in 1961 and farmed with his brother John, nephew Doug and son Bruce in Kimball Township his entire life.
Jim and Dianne raised four children and attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Alpha.
Jim enjoyed flying, boating, fishing, gardening and ballroom dancing. He also served on the Mt. Lake School Board and with the Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Swanson; and a grandson, Benjamin.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Swanson of rural Mt. Lake; sons: Steve (Terry) Swanson of New Hope; David Swanson of Fairfield, Iowa; and Bruce (Merna) Swanson of rural Mt. Lake; a daughter, Jodi (Rod) Bjerke of Rockford, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Laura Swanson of rural Mt. Lake; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Storbeck of Overland Park, Kan.
