Gene Schenk, 64, of Landsdowne, Pa., formerly of the Jeffers-Sanborn area, died July 11, 2019, at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pa., after a battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be held Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m., at LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom, which is handling the arrangements.
Gene Arnold Schenk was born July 17, 1954, to Arnold and Carol H. (Thiesse) Schenk in Comfrey. He was baptized and confirmed in The First Congregational Church in Comfrey.
He attended and graduated from Storden-Jeffers High School in 1972. He served as Minnesota State FFA secretary in 1972-73.
He attended the University of Minnesota and studied agriculture. Gene enjoyed playing baseball and also was a student-coach on the Gopher baseball team.
In 1985, Gene moved to Chicago to purse his passion in political organizing, meeting many of his friends and colleagues, who became his family.
In 2015, Gene married Sheilagh Soules in Harpers Ferry, W.Va. They lived in Landsdowne, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold; and wife, Sheilagh Soules Schenk.
Survivors include his mother, Carol H. Schenk of Windom; a brother, Randy (Carol) Schenk of Windom; and a sister, Leah (Rick) Crow of Laporte.
