Gladys Herding, 83, of Storden died June 15, 2019, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday at 11 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden with Pastor Marcille Jensen officiating.
Special music will be provided by Elizabeth Johnson, organist/vocalist; and Morgen Pederson, vocalist.
Casket bearers and honorary bearers will be all of Gladys' grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Interment will follow at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in rural Storden.
Visitation will be Friday from 9 to 11 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom is handling the funeral arrangements.
Gladys Jeanette Erickson was born Dec. 21, 1935, to Elvin and Hattie (Peterson) Erickson in Storden Township of Cottonwood County. She was baptized and later confirmed at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church in rural Westbrook.
Gladys received her education at Storden Consolidated School, graduating in 1953. She furthered her education at Augustana, where she received her teaching degree and taught for two years in Slayton.
In 1956, Gladys married Eugene "Bud" Herding at Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden. They lived in Hadley for a year until moving to Storden where they began farming. They were blessed with 11 children.
From 1979 to 1985, Gladys was a preschool assistant. She also taught piano lessons for many years. Gladys and Bud farmed for 52 years before retiring in 2005.
In retirement, they spent winters in Arizona.
After Bud's death in 2008, Gladys remained on the farm.
She will be remembered for her love for God, playing cards, gardening, canning, baking (especially homemade buns), her love of music and singing, and her love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling.
A longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden, Gladys also was a member of the ladies circle and quilting group, sang in the choir, played organ and taught Sunday School.
She also was a member of Herbert-Reese American Legion Post 391 Auxiliary in Storden.
In addition to her husband, Eugene "Bud" Herding, Gladys was preceded in death by a brother, Arden Erickson; and a sister-in-law, Bette Jo Erickson.
Survivors include her 11 children: Gayle (Keith) Wolf of Jeffers; Debbra (Reid) Miller, Todd (Susan) Herding and Travis (Laridee) Herding, all of Storden; Connie (David) Engen of Revere; Kelly (Steve) Lundgren of Lake Lillian; Pam (Steve) Harris of Willmar; Timm (Jenny) Herding and Lori (Corey) Bunting, all of Westbrook; Jean (Ralph) Price of Lamberton; and Tory (Betsy) Herding of Windom; 32 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennis Erickson of Westbrook; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Erickson of Storden; and special friend, Dale Fox of Storden.
