Pearl Haglund, 95, of Mt. Lake died June 3, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mt. Lake.
Services were Saturday at Lakeview Gospel Church in Mt. Lake with Pastor Merwin Dick officiating.
Interment was at Butterfield City Cemetery in Butterfield.
Sturm Funeral Home of Mt. Lake handled the funeral arrangements.
Pearl Frances Rettke was born March 11, 1924, to Henry and Elsie (Sanders) Rettke in St. James Township of Watonwan County. She was the fourth of five children and last surviving sibling.
Her teenage years were difficult. When Pearl was 14 years old, her mother died and she became a mother to her 5-year-old brother. At age 18, she injured her hand and suffered a severe case of lockjaw.
In 1943, Pearl married Warren Haglund. They lived on a farm north of Butterfield where they raised their seven children and farmed. They also operated a trucking business, hog buying station and cattle yards in their earlier years.
Pearl was a homemaker and also helped run the family businesses.
Pearl accepted Christ as her personal Savior in 1953 at age 29. She had a strong faith that she practiced and lived by showing kindness to and serving her family and others.
Warren died in 2003.
In 2008, Pearl married Harvey Stoesz. They lived in Mt. Lake until moving to The Lodge, then The Village in 2017.
Pearl enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening. She also enjoyed eating out, spending time with her children and making memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband, Warren Haglund, Pearl was preceded in death by four siblings; a son-in-law, Howard Hockel; step-daughter, Donna Stoesz; and step-granddaughter, Hannah Stoesz.
Survivors include her husband, Harvey Stoesz; children: Lanny (Johnelle) Haglund, Julene Hockel, Roxanne (Steven) Smith, Renee (Steven) Tierney, Debra (David) Korton, Richard (Dee) Haglund and Yvonne (Harlin) Rozeboom; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; step-children: Jim Stoesz, Becky (Rick) Hagen, Rachel (Bill) Janzen, Jerome (Marilyn) Stoesz and Andrea (Chris) Sindt; 11 step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
