Last week, I mentioned that athletic schedules are starting to come online for the 2019-20 school year. When I looked this week, some of the spring sports schedules are starting to be posted to the conference websites. For example, from what I could tell, Windom's baseball and golf schedules looked completely up to date, while fastpitch softball and track both looked like some dates had to be punched in. As in the fall, there were a few things that caught my eye regarding the spring schedules. While the track schedule was not complete, one nugget jumped out at me. The schedule stated that the annual Trojan Relays in Worthington were going to be run in Luverne next spring due to construction at Trojan Field. There were some wholesale changes regarding the golf schedule for Windom. The Big South Conference is taking a page from the Red Rock Conference with three Monday dates for all teams in the division to come together for 18-hole events. On April 20, the boys will play in Redwood Falls, while the girls play at Luverne. On April 27, the boys play in Windom and the girls in Marshall. And on May 4, the boys play at Worthington and the girls at Pipestone. Another exciting change for golf is that the Big South Conference Tournament on May 11 will be played at Dacotah Ridge in Morton. It appears that the Windom fastpitch team will play doubleheaders against all its small school division foes except for St. James Area. The Eagles will play a home-and-home series with the Saints. The Eagle baseball team's only scheduled doubleheader is when it hosts its annual tournament on May 2. The fastpitch team also hosts a tournament on May 2. Winter schedule notes Local wrestling fans will have just three chances to watch the Windom-Mt. Lake team on home turf, barring later changes. The Cobras open the season Dec. 5, hosting Luverne and Worthington in a triangular at Mt. Lake. The Cobras host LeSueur-Henderson and Madelia-Truman on Jan. 7 in Windom and host JCC on Jan. 31 in Windom. The 2020 section team semifinals and finals will be in Lamberton on Feb. 15, with the individual tournament in Canby on Feb. 21-22. The Windom Holiday Classic basketball tournament will be Dec. 27-28. Windom, Cedar Mountain and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunberg will be in both the girls and boys tournaments. The tourney also includes the Fairmont girls and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys. The MLAC and RRC boys basketball teams will again play in the same holiday tournament. This year's tourney is played in Tyler the Thursday and Saturday before Christmas. RTR and Wabasso are the other teams in the tourney. So far, girls basketball teams from MLAC, RRC and WWG are not slated for any holiday tournament action. While Windom has long had several girl/boy hoops doubleheaders, MLAC, RRC and WWG have been adding more in recent years. MLAC actually has four doubleheaders on the schedule this year: Jan. 3 at Ellsworth, Jan. 27 at Nicollet, Feb. 1 at home against Windom and Feb. 13 at home against Southwest Christian. RRC plays doubleheaders Jan. 11, hosting Wabasso, and Jan. 18, facing Lakeview at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. WWG has one scheduled doubleheader this year, hosting Luverne on Jan. 4.
