OK, if you are anything like me, you'll embrace any excuse to laugh right about now. As I mentioned a few months ago in this space, people in my business sometimes take themselves far too seriously. We need to laugh at ourselves a little more often. I'd wager that most newspapers have, at some point, made a humorous mistake - either with a headline or story. So, back by popular demand (and since Jay Leno is no longer sharing his late-night headlines), I give you my version. By the way, feel free to send me any good ones you happen to stumble across. Here are some of the best headline goof-ups from America's well-intentioned editors. Enjoy: Alton attorney accidentally sues himself. Scientists to kill ducks to see why they are dying. Hospitals resort to hiring doctors. Students cook and serve grandparents. Chick accuses some of her male colleagues of sexism (the councilwoman's name is Chick). Nudists fight erection of towers near Wreck Beach. City unsure why the sewer smells. Parents keep kids home to protest school closure. Ex-minister breaks silence, says nothing. Overall serious crime rate down - but arsons, burglaries, homicides up.
