County fair's early moments
Pssst, I'm not supposed to do this, but I'm letting readers in on our page 1 secret for the Citizen's Aug. 14 edition.
I'm 99% certain we'll have a page 1 story previewing the Cottonwood County Fair. However, there's one problem - the fair actually starts Tuesday with 4-H general judging and other exhibit arrivals.
For as long as I can remember, we have run our fair preview story after the county fair is already underway. Granted, it seems odd that we are previewing an event after it starts.
However, the alternative would be to run our pre-fair coverage this week, which puts it in readers' hands several days ahead of the fair's grandstand events, which occur Wednesday through Saturday nights.
Still, a lot of good things will happen Wednesday morning, before many readers get a look at the Citizen. For instance, the 4-H horse show begins at 8 a.m. in the Arena.
And, at 10 a.m. the 4-H Food Stand opens for the week. At about the same time, there will be FFA judging for crops and other items in the Vossen building.
So do yourself a favor and check out the fair on Wednesday. You'll be glad you did.
