Reader: Sen. Weber's recent column was way off base

I feel I have to respond to the recent guest column by Senator Bill Weber which appeared in the July 8 Cottonwood County Citizen.
The things you (Weber) wrote about Gov. Tim Walz are the worst batch of twatwaddle I've read in a long time.
And no, he (Walz) didn't try to roll your Republicans who control the Senate in Minnesota.
The fact is, you were the ones who fought him every minute of the legislative session and then, as catastrophes that no Governor here has had to deal with since 1918 or 1960 gave us a one-two punch. And, you kept doing the same thing in the special session.
Did you step up for your fellow Minnesotans and cooperate to make the best decisions possible? No, you didn't.
The Senate refused to pass a bonding bill for our roads and bridges for the entire regular session and the special session. The potholes do not stop happening just because you Republicans resent having a Democrat for a governor.
Yes, he took emergency special powers. That's because, as a teacher and soldier, it didn't take him long to figure out that if he didn't take control you all would run around like chickens with your heads cut off. And, you would spend your time blaming Congressional House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, just as we saw Sen. Weber do in his column.
The truth is, you Republicans fought Gov. Walz every step of the way. At the same time, you counted on making political hay from this catastrophic white supremacist attempt to finally win the Civil War and also use a monster global pandemic - which, by the way, no one knows how to deal with.
But you do not have any rational solutions yet, do you?
So, let's see your Republican solutions to the pandemic, riots and the massive meltdown of our economy.
And stop saying that Gov. Walz thinks all of us in rural Minnesota are dumb as rocks and cows. He was born and raised out here and has worked all his life in the best interests of others.
He wasn't born wealthy and did not have everything handed to him on a silver platter. He knows how we farmers and working folks struggle for a good education for ourselves and our families and also struggle for the best for our communities.
That's because he grew up doing just that.
