Winfair's neighbor will miss 'The Quiet Place'
Living north of Winfair's playground, I've written before about how delightful it is to watch the children during lunch hours in the spring and fall.
Winter is no exception. From rolling around in the snow to making forts (fortunately, no snowball fights!), they have a great time.
Over the past couple of years, I've noticed several children gathered around a rock and small maple tree to the west of the swings. They come and go, but when they are by the rock, they sit or stand and visit.
A few months ago, I asked them what that spot meant to them. "We call it 'The Quiet Place,' " they said, without any further explanation.
I've been unable to find out whose memory the stone represents and hope someone can provide the answer. I do know that once the new elementary school is built, The Quiet Place will no longer exist. I'll miss it.
