Windom 17-26-21-25-14 = 2 Worthington 25-24-25-11-16 = 3 The Windom Eagle volleyball team fell to 0-2 on the young season Tuesday night, dropping a 3-2 heartbreaker at Worthington.
The Eagles were able to shake off a sluggish start to rally to win the second set 26-24. Worthington answered, pulling away late to win the third set, but the Eagles were in command from the start in set four, leading 9-0 early on their way to a 25-11 win.
In the deciding fifth set, Worthington jumped to the early lead, but the Eagles rallied, eventually claiming a match point with a 14-13 lead. But Worthington battled back, scoring the final three points of the match to claim the win.
Delaney Smith led the Eagles at the net with 16 kills and added two solo blocks. Tristyn Maras added 11 kills and Amelia Rivera finished with six kills. Kameron Rupp had a team-high three solo blocks.
At the service line, Ericka Appel went 18-of-19 with two aces. Smith was 17-of-18 with two aces and Ellie Maricle was 14-of-15 with an ace.
Maricle and Jenna Brockman each finished with 14 set assists. Kendyl Sammons finished with a team-high four digs.
HBC 19-25-19-15 = 1 RRC 25-20-25-25 = 3 Red Rock Central rebounded from a second-set loss Tuesday night, pulling away down the stretch for a 3-1 victory over Hills-Beaver Creek at Lamberton.
The Falcons had a big night at the net from junior Karli Arkell and senior Nicole Schroepfer. Arkell led the Falcons with 18 kills, while Schroepfer added 17 kills.
Arkell also fired four ace serves on 16-of-18 serving. Kennedy Vold went 12-of-14 with three aces and Schroepfer had two aces on 7-of-8 serving.
Nora Hemmingsen handed out 21 set assists. Schroepfer added 19 assists. Bianca Weis finished with a team-high 42 digs.
WWG 19-19-14 = 0 AE 25-25-25 = 3 Defending Red Rock Conference champion Adrian-Ellsworth pulled away late Tuesday, securing a 3-0 sweep over Westbrook-Walnut Grove at Ellsworth.
The Chargers struggled to get their offense going against the veteran Dragon team, which used a powerful attack to keep WWG off-balance.
Lexi Herding led WWG at the service line, going 13-of-13 with an ace. She also had a team-high seven set assists.
Beth Byers led WWG at the net with five kills. Olivia Klumper had four kills and two solo blocks. Kelsey DeSmith added four kills and eight digs. Emma Wahl finished with a team-high 36 digs.
