JCC 25-25-25 = 3 Windom 17-15-14 = 0 The Windom Eagle volleyball team struggled to slow down a powerful service game by Jackson County Central Thursday night, opening the 2020 season with a 3-0 loss to the Huskies at Windom.
The Eagles got off to a good start, leading 9-3 in the opening set, but JCC rallied by keeping the Eagle defense scrambling, eventually winning the opening set 25-17.
The Huskies then got off to a quick start in the second set, winning 25-15. JCC built a 22-5 lead in the third set before the Eagles closed the gap, but the Huskies claimed a 25-14 win to close out the match.
Tristyn Maras led the Eagles at the net with 10 kills. Delaney Smith added six kills.
Amelia Rivera went 9-of-10 serving with two aces. Jenna Brockman was 6-of-7 serving with two aces and had a team-high 11 set assists. Kendyl Sammons finished with a team-high six digs.
MCC 14-13-13 = 0 RRC 25-25-25 = 3 Red Rock Central opened its season with a dominant performance at home Thursday night, cruising to a 3-0 victory over Murray County Central at Lamberton.
The Falcons fired 15 ace serves as a team in the win, led by Karli Arkell going 22-of-22 with four aces. Lilly Stavnes went 18-of-19 with four aces and Bianca Weis had three aces on 10-of-11 serving.
Arkell also led the Falcons at the net with 15 kills. Nicole Schroepfer had six kills and Josie Horning added four.
Schroepfer handed out a team-high 13 set assists and tallied 11 digs.
SWC 19-25-25-12-07 = 2 WWG 25-13-13-25-15 = 3 Westbrook-Walnut Grove battled back from a 2-1 deficit in its season-opener Thursday, rallying to win the final two sets to defeat Southwest Minnesota Christian 3-2 at Westbrook.
WWG won the opening set, but SWC dominated the next two sets to take the lead. But the Chargers answered with a strong serving night from Lexi Herding and a big night at the net from senior middle hitters Olivia Klumper and Beth Byers.
Herding finished 24-of-25 from the service line, firing three aces in the victory. Meanwhile, Klumper blasted a team-high 11 kills and had four solo blocks. Byers added eight kills and Kayla Freeburg finished with seven kills.
Emma Wahl finished with 36 digs. Herding had a team-high 23 set assists in the win.
MLAC 17-21-09 = 0 HBC 25-25-25 = 3 Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey couldn't overcome its mistakes Thursday night, opening the 2020 season with a 3-0 loss to Hills-Beaver Creek at Hills.
The Wolverines gave up lengthy runs in each set, particularly in the final set, where the Patriots claimed a 25-9 victory to close out the match.
Kearney Wall led the Wolverines with eight kills in the loss. Brooke Naas added six kills and Michala Morin finished with four.
Morin led the Wolverines at the service line, going 9-of-11 with three aces. Jenna Thom was 11-of-12 with two aces.
Jaci Tollefson finished with 18 set assists. Carly Osland and Morin each finished with nine digs.
