9/9/2020 11:59:00 AM Pirates have big hand in Fairmont state title
Two members of the Windom Pirates played a major role as draftees as the Fairmont Martins captured the Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Class C Tournament championship over the weekend in Springfield.
Pirate pitcher Collin Lovell won two games at the state tournament for the Martins, including working eight strong innings in Fairmont's 7-5 win over defending state champion Jordan in Friday's game. Lovell scattered 11 hits, walked two and struck out seven. Fairmont held a 7-2 lead when Lovell was lifted from the game in the bottom of the ninth.
Then, after winning 5-1 over Buffalo and 10-3 over Cold Spring to advance to Monday's championship game, Pirate pitcher Ross Ackerman tossed six innings of three-hit shutout ball, as Fairmont defeated St. Patrick 12-0 to win the state title. Ackerman did not issue a walk and struck out four in the victory.
