First Nite/Gopher playoffs start Wednesday
The amateur baseball postseason begins Wednesday with the opening round of the First Nite/Gopher League playoffs getting underway.
The seedings for the playoffs were determined Saturday. The top seed in each league received an automatic bye into the Region 13C playoffs, with the remaining six teams in each league crossing brackets for best-of-three series that start Wednesday.
The Windom Pirates were seeded second in the First Nite League. The Pirates open the playoffs against the seventh-seeded team from the Gopher League, the Ruthton Royals. That series begins Wednesday at Island Park, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Game two will be played Friday in Ruthton, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Game three, if necessary, will be Sunday at Island Park, beginning at 2 p.m.
The Mt. Lake Lakers were seeded sixth in the First Nite League and open the playoffs against the Gopher League's third seed, the Hadley Buttermakers. Game one will be played Wednesday at the Lakers' temporary home, St. James, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Game two will be played Saturday at 2 p.m., in Hadley. Game three, if necessary, will be Sunday at 2 p.m., in Hadley.
The winners of the six play-in series and the two automatic qualifiers will hold a seeding meeting for the eight-team Region 13C Tournament on July 27. First-round best-of-three series will begin July 29.
