Baseball returns to Island Park tonight

For the first time in nearly two full years, baseball returns to Island Park in Windom tonight, as the Windom Pirates host the Worthington Cubs in a First Nite League exhibition.

Island Park was closed due to flooding in July, 2018 and has not been used for baseball since. The Pirates finished the 2018 season and played the entire 2019 home schedule at the Windom Recreation Area, which also hosted the 2019 high school season.

Island Park was used for three home football games last fall. After the season was completed, portions of the outfield grass were overseeded. Sod work was completed earlier this spring, and work on the infield and mound were done this spring.

The Pirates will have three home games in the coming week. In addition to hosting Worthington in First Nite League play tonight, the Pirates have non-league games against Springfield Thursday and New Ulm next Tuesday. All three home games start at 7:30 p.m.
