5/13/2020 11:26:00 AM Revamped schedule sees Eagle football team playing a Zero Week game
The Windom Eagle football team's revamped schedule was announced Wednesday morning, with a handful of surprises included.
When St. James announced it would not field a varsity program this year, the South Central District decided to adjust the entire schedule, going from four sub-districts to two.
One of the biggest surprises is the Eagles will play a Zero Week game on Aug. 28, when they host Redwood Valley. For most schools, the regular season will begin Sept. 4, which is the Friday before Labor Day.
Because the Eagles play a Zero Week game, they will have a no-contact bye week in the middle of the season. That bye for the Eagles falls on Oct. 2.
Another major surprise is that, for the first time in many years, the Eagles will not face Jackson County Central. And the last big surprise is a regular-season game played after MEA week.
The schedule also includes three road games against schools the Eagles have never played in the regular season before -- New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, Norwood-Young America and Sibley East.
The Eagles' schedule includes: Aug. 28 vs. Redwood Valley Sept. 4 at NRHEG Sept. 11 vs. LCWM Sept. 18 at NYA Sept. 25 MCW Oct. 2 BYE Oct. 9 at Pipestone Oct. 14 at Sibley East Oct. 20 vs. GFW
