Spring sports seasons in holding pattern

Over the weekend, the Minnesota State High School League issued updated regulations for spring sports, following the executive order of Gov. Tim Walz to close all public schools in the state.

All spring sports practices will be cancelled until March 30 at the earliest, with all competitions and scrimmages cancelled until April 6 at the earliest. Should the need arise to continue to keep schools closed longer, the spring season will be re-evaluated. The Centers for Disease Control, on Sunday, issued a recommendation that no gatherings of over 50 people take place for eight weeks.

At this time, the MSHSL has not issued any statement that the spring sports season will be cancelled entirely. The MSHSL did cancel the girls basketball state tournament, as well as any section boys basketball tournaments that had not been completed and the state boys basketball tournament.
