State tournaments cancelled; speech section meets postponed
The Minnesota State High School League announced on Friday that is was cancelling the remainder of the state girls basketball tournament, as well as any remaining section and state boys basketball tournaments.
The move came due to concerns over spreading the COVID-19 virus. Previously, the MSHSL announced that the tournaments would continue with limited spectators and essential staff only.
Also on Friday, the MSHSL announced that section speech contests would be postponed indefinitely, and that an announcement concerning the status of the spring sports season would be pending this afternoon. Several school districts in the state have announced that all practices, scrimmages and contests would be discontinued through the end of the month.
Additionally, the Northland Youth Wrestling Association announced that all regional and state competitions, including the March 28 regional tournament in Windom, would be cancelled.
