WWG 33-15 = 48 SWC 30-30 = 60 A suffocating second-half defensive effort propelled Southwest Minnesota Christian into the Section 3A championship game with a 60-48 victory over Westbrook-Walnut Grove in the sub-section finals Saturday in Marshall.
WWG tied the game at 30-30 late in the first half on a four-point play from Ethan Mischke, then took a three-point lead into halftime when Hunter Lien hit a three-pointer just before the buzzer.
The Chargers came out in the second half and built the lead to 40-35 behind buckets from Mischke and Nathan Kuehl and a three-pointer from Mischke. But SWC answered by holding the Chargers to just four field goals over the final 14:20 of the game, including a 13-0 run that lasted seven minutes. That run gave the Eagles a 48-40 lead.
After buckets from Mischke and Kuehl cut the deficit to 49-44, the Eagles used another 9-0 burst to put the game out of reach. The run ended with a dunk from Mischke in the final minute, which gave the Charger junior 1,000 points for his career.
Mischke led WWG with 20 points in the loss. Nathan Ross added 11 points and Lien added seven. Ross and Lien scored all their points in the first half.
