Eagle girls rally late, top Saints
Windom 44-36 = 80
SJA 34-33 = 67
St. James Area made a furious second-half rally to pull to within a single point with four minutes to go in the game, but the Windom Eagles closed the game with a 12-0 run Tuesday, sealing an 80-67 win over the Saints at St. James.
Windom struggled with poor shooting much of the game, but was able to offset the poor shooting with a strong night from the free throw line. Windom finished the game 22-of-30 from the line, while St. James was 5-of-9.
The Eagles staked themselves to a 10-point halftime lead, but the Saints rallied in the second half, erasing the 10-point deficit to make the score 68-67 with four minutes to go. But key buckets from Allison Letcher and a string of free throws allowed the Eagles to push the lead back to double-digits and run out the clock.
Letcher led the Eagles with 27 points in the victory. Delaney Smith added 17 points and Kaitlee Huska scored 10. Gracie Bucher finished with eight points and a team-high 14 rebounds.
