Cobras finish 1-2 at season-ending quad
Cobras go 1-2 in finale
The Windom-Mt. Lake wrestling team went 1-2 in a four-team meet Friday night in New Ulm.
The Cobras opened with a 40-24 loss to Glencoe-Silver Lake, then dropped a 39-36 decision to New Ulm before claiming a 59-24 win over Fulda-Murray County Central.
Against GSL, the Cobras started with a 10-0 lead. Tucker Renquist (106) recorded a fall and Thavien Xayachak added a major decision. Kade Sammons (132) won by decision and Brett Willaby (145) added a technical fall. But GSL won the next five weights, with two falls and a forfeit, taking the lead for good. WML added a forfeit win at 285.
Against New Ulm the Cobras won six of the first eight weights, with Renquist (106), Xayachak (113) and Caden Swoboda (126) winning by fall. WML added three forfeit wins.
After a double forfeit at 160, New Ulm ended with two forfeits and three falls, with a fall at heavyweight sealing the victory for New Ulm.
In the final dual of the night, the Cobras got off to a fast start on its way to victory against FMCC. Renquist (106), Xayachak (113), Swoboda (126), Micah Holmberg (160), and Keith Swenson (182) each won by fall. Willaby (145) added a technical fall victory. The Cobras added four forfeit wins.
