Eagle boys trip Redwood

After a wild second period, the Windom Area boys hockey team settled in in the third period, pulling away for a 7-5 victory over Redwood Valley Thursday at Redwood Falls.
The first period was scoreless with few shots on goal, but that changed quickly in the second period, as the Eagles and Cardinals traded goals, leading to a 4-4 tie after two periods.
Redwood got on the scoreboard first, but the Eagles answered at the 2:22 mark of the period on a goal from Alex Espenson, assisted by Zach Espenson and Wyatt Haugen.
Less than two minutes later, the Eagles took a 2-1 lead on a goal from Kyle Espenson, assisted by Alex Espenson.
Redwood Valley tied the game at 2-2, but the Eagles scored a pair of goals 12 seconds apart. Simon Pell found the net, assisted by Kaleb LaCanne. Then, at the 7:39 mark of the second, Austin Fredin redirected a shot from Mikal Anderson for a goal. Zach Espenson also assisted.
The Cardinals rallied to tie the game at 4-4 after two periods, but the Eagles started the third period strong, scoring 51 seconds into the period on a goal by Kyle Espenson, assisted by Alex Espenson. Vance Koch added a goal at the 6:45 mark, assisted by Kyle Espenson and Alex Espenson, to give the Eagles a 6-4 lead.
Windom Area's last goal came with 1:02 left on the clock, as Kyle Espenson finished off a hat trick, assisted by Haugen and Zach Espenson.
The Eagles outshot the Cardinals 36-28 in the game. Eagle goalie Dan Stubbe finished with 23 saves.
