Eagle girls drop two straight

Windom 19-29 = 48
EVW 44-33 = 77

Eden Valley-Watkins was red hot from the field throughout the game Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 77-48 victory over the Windom girls basketball team in a game played at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.

EVW shot 55% from the field for the game, scoring a whopping 50 points in the paint. Meanwhile, the Eagles couldn't keep pace, particularly early, as EVW held a 25-point halftime lead.

Delaney Smith led the Eagles with 17 points and nine rebounds. Allison Letcher added 13 points in the loss.

Wabasso 28-18 = 46
RRC 27-35 = 62

Red Rock Central cranked up the defensive intensity in the second half Saturday, which led to offensive opportunities in a 62-46 victory over Wabasso at Lamberton.

The Falcons trailed by one at halftime, but came out strong in the second half, recording 12 steals as a team in the half.

Meanwhile, the Falcons held Wabasso's offense in check, as only four Rabbit players found the scoring column in the second half.

Karli Arkell led the Falcons with 19 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots. Nicole Schroepfer added 16 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Lily Stavnes had a team-high seven steals and six assists.

Windom 25-39 = 64
Luverne 37-35 = 72

Luverne's pressure defense proved to be the difference early as the Cardinals took a 12-point halftime lead and never looked back, claiming a 72-64 win over the Windom Eagles at Luverne.

The Cardinals forced the Eagles into 31 turnovers in the game, with many of them coming in the first half. That allowed Luverne to take a 37-25 lead at halftime.

The Eagles tried to chip into the deficit in the second half, but couldn't overcome a 34-point, 10-steal performance from Luverne's Mallory Thorson.

Allison Letcher led the Eagles with 27 points. Delaney Smith added 16 points and 14 rebounds.
