Cobras have one champ, six medalists at BSC Tourney
The Windom-Mt. Lake wrestling team had one champion crowned and six overall medalists Saturday at the Big South Conference Tournament, held in Worthington.
As a team, the Cobras finished in ninth place with 78 team points. Martin County won the team title with 232 points.
Individually, the Cobras were led by junior Kade Sammons, who captured the tournament title at 132 pounds. Sammons opened the tourney with a bye, then recorded a pin and a decision to advance to the finals.
In the finals, Sammons and Blake Jagodzinske of Martin County battled to a 5-5 tie through three periods, but Sammons recorded a takedown in the sudden-victory overtime period, earning a 7-5 win and the conference title.
WML added one runner-up for the day. Senior Brett Willaby opened with a bye at 138 pounds, then recorded a fall and a 21-8 major decision to advance to the finals.
In the finals, Connor Simmonds of Martin County was able to turn Willaby to his back, recording a fall in 5:26.
WML added fifth-place finishes from Micah Holmberg (152) and Alex Altman (195). Tucker Renquist (113) and Caden Swoboda (120) added sixth-place finishes.
