Bluejays sink Eagle girls

Waseca 1-1-2 = 4
Windom Area 0-0-1 = 1

On an emotional night at the Windom Arena, the Windom Area girls hockey team never found its offensive footing Thursday, falling 4-1 to Waseca. It was the first win of the season for the Bluejays.

Prior to the game, it was announced that the ticket gate and donations at the concession stand would be donated to the family of Waseca police officer Arik Matson, who is hospitalized after being shot in the line of duty Monday evening.

Waseca fed off the emotion of the night, outshooting the Eagles 39-30 for the game.

The Bluejays scored power play goals in each of the first two periods. Windom Area cut the deficit to 2-1 early in the third period when Marissa Becker scored a power play goal, assisted by Abby Ignaszewski and Meakin Bang.

But the Bluejays put the game out of reach at the 8:03 mark of the final period, then added an insurance goal with one minute left on the clock.

Eagle goalie Kaylie Baerg finished with 35 saves in the loss.
