Bulldogs sweep Eagle hockey
Boys fall to Bulldogs
MN River 2-2-2 = 6
Windom Area 0-1-1 = 2

The Windom Area boys hockey team couldn't capitalize on scoring chances Saturday, falling 6-2 to Minnesota River at the Windom Arena.

The Eagles outshot the Bulldogs 43-41 in the game, but Bulldog goalie Mitch Kotek turned aside 41 Eagle shots.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs raced to a 3-0 lead early in the second period and maintained the lead much of the final two periods.

Windom Area got on the board late in the second period on a power play goal by Kyle Espenson, assisted by Alex Espenson and Austin Fredin.

Trailing 5-1 in the third, Kyle Espenson scored with just under seven minutes to go, assisted by Alex Espenson and Fredin. But the Bulldogs sealed the win with a late goal.

Dan Stubbe finished with 35 saves in the loss.

Windom Area 1-1-1 = 3

The Windom Area girls hockey team fell behind and couldn't recover Saturday, taking a 7-3 loss to Minnesota River at the Windom Arena.

The Bulldogs jumped to an early 2-0 lead, the expanded the lead with a three-goal second period.

Windom Area got on the board late in the first period, when a pass from Marissa Becker deflected off the skate of Abby Ignaszewski for a goal.

Trailing 4-1 in the second, Ignaszewski scored her second goal of the game, rifling a shot on the power play past the Bulldog goalie.

The Eagles trimmed the deficit to 5-3 early in the second period when Becker scored off assists from Ignaszewski and Elly Bang, but the Bulldogs sealed the win behind a pair of third-period goals.

Minnesota River outshot the Eagles 32-19 in the game. Goalie Kaylie Baerg finished with 13 saves. Bethany Schmidt added 12 saves in the final period.
