Section 3 champion Mt. Lake Area (11-0) will face Section 1 champion Grand Meadow (10-1) in a quarterfinal matchup played at Wescott Field in Austin. MLA advanced with a 28-6 victory over Hills-Beaver Creek, while Grand Meadow defeated Houston 35-0 in the Section 1 finals.

The Section 1 champion has won each of the last six Prep Bowl championships. Spring Grove, which won the last two state titles, was knocked out of this year's playoffs in the section semifinals by Grand Meadow. Grand Meadow won the four state titles prior to Spring Grove's two-year reign.

MLA is the defending state runner-up, having lost 40-18 to Spring Grove in last year's Prep Bowl game.

The only other returning team from last year's state tournament field is Section 7 champion Mt. Iron-Buhl. MIB lost to MLA in last year's state semifinals.

The semifinal round and the Prep Bowl will be played at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
