WWG 25-19-25-25 = 3
HLOF 14-25-09-19 = 1

Westbrook-Walnut Grove seized command with a dominant third set and carried the momentum into the fourth set, as the fifth-seeded Chargers knocked off fourth-seeded Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda in the Section 3A South playoffs Friday in Fulda.

WWG cruised to a 25-14 win in the opening set, but HLOF battled back, tying the match with a 25-19 second-set win.

In the third set, the Chargers kept the Coyote defense scrambling and forced numerous hitting errors, leading to a 25-9 win.

Then, in the fourth set, WWG was able to take command early, maintaining the lead throughout for a 25-19 victory.

Lexi Herding led WWG from the service line, going 22-of-23 with two aces. Kelly Berglund was 15-of-16 with two aces.

At the net, Kelsey DeSmith led WWG with eight kills. Madison Dennistoun finished with seven kills.

MCC 26-25-19-22-15 = 3
RRC 24-21-25-25-08 = 2

Red Rock Central rallied from two sets down to force a deciding fifth set, but Murray County Central seized momentum early in the fifth set, as the sixth-seeded Rebels knocked off the third-seeded Falcons 3-2 in the Section 3A South playoffs Friday in Lamberton.

MCC rallied from 24-20 down to win the first set 26-24, then rode that wave of momentum to an early lead in the second set, eventually winning 25-21.

With their backs to the wall, the Falcons battled back, winning the third set 25-19, then rallying to win set four 25-22.

But in set five, MCC staked itself to the lead halfway through the set, forcing the Falcons to take both time outs in rapid order. The Falcons weren't able to record a side out down the stretch, as a hitting error gave MCC the win.

Junior libero Bianca Weis led the defensive effort for the Falcons, tallying 34 digs to surpass the 1,000 dig mark for her career. Nicole Schroepfer added 27 digs.

Karli Arkell and Schroepfer each finished with 14 kills for the Falcons. Kierra Highby added nine kills

From the service line, Nora Hemmingsen was 18-of-20 with three aces. Weis had two aces on 15-of-17 serving. The Falcons had an uncharacteristic night from the service line, recording 11 service errors in the match.

Hemmingsen finished with 19 set assists. Schroepfer added 16 assists.
