The Windom Eagle volleyball team opened the Section 3AA playoffs with a solid outing Thursday night, claiming a 3-1 victory over New Ulm at Windom.

The Eagles opened the match strong, winning the first two sets 25-11 and 25-15. New Ulm battled back, rallying late to win the third set 25-23. But Windom answered, jumping to a quick start and rolling to a 25-13 win in the fourth set.

Windom was led at the service line by Autumn Hauge with three aces on 18-of-21 serving. Reegan Elder was 18-of-19 with an ace. Halle Jackson was 14-of-15 with an ace and Daytona Smedsrud went 9-of-11 with an ace.

Katelyn Nichols led the Eagles at the net with 23 kills and four solo blocks. Hauge added 14 kills and two blocks. Tristyn Maras finished with 12 kills and Delaney Smith had five kills and two blocks.

Jackson handed out 25 set assists. Elder added 12 assists. Shelby Erickson had team-high eight digs.

MLAC 25-25-25 = 3

The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey volleyball team opened the Section 2A playoffs Thursday with a 3-0 sweep over Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton at Comfrey.

The Wolverines had a strong night from the service line, bombing away for 13 ace serves in the victory.

Destiny Sybounheuan led the Wolverines with six aces on 16-of-17 serving. Kirsten Myers went 12-of-13 with three aces and Megan McCue was 6-of-8 with two aces.

At the net, Margo Stoesz led the way with 16 kills. McCue chipped in nine kills and Myers added eight.

Sybounheuan handed out 31 set assists. Stoesz finished with a team-high 20 digs.
