Minneota 25-25-25 = 3 Windom 16-08-13 = 0 A shorthanded Windom Eagle volleyball team closed the regular season with a tough 3-0 loss to the state's third-ranked Class A team, Minneota, Tuesday night at Windom.
The opening set went back and forth early, but the Vikings turned a late run into a 25-16 victory. Minneota rode that momentum into the second set, jumping to a huge lead early for a 25-8 win, then closing out the match with a 25-13 win in the third set.
The Eagles played without one of their top attackers, senior Autumn Hauge, due to illness.
Delaney Smith led the Eagles with 10 kills. Katelyn Nichols added nine kills and Tristyn Maras had four.
Daytona Smedsrud led the Eagles from the service line, going 9-of-9.
Halle Jackson had eight set assists. Shelby Erickson finished with 12 digs.
MLAC 25-25-25 = 3 Springfield 16-19-19 = 0 Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey wrapped up the regular season Tuesday night with a solid performance, claiming a 3-0 sweep at Springfield.
The Wolverines took control early in the match, racing to a 25-16 victory in the opening set. The Wolverines then won the final two sets by identical 25-19 scores.
MLAC had good balance at the net, led by Margo Stoesz with 12 kills. Megan McCue added six kills, Bileigh Anacker had five and Anna Kirk and Kirsten Myers finished with four each.
Stoesz went 13-of-14 serving with three aces. Myers was 12-of-13 with an ace and McCue went 11-of-12 with an ace.
Stoesz finished with a team-high 12 digs. Destiny Sybounheuan recorded 30 set assists.
Wabasso 27-17-25-23-15 = 3 WWG 25-25-16-25-13 = 2 Westbrook-Walnut Grove wrapped up the regular season with an uneven performance Tuesday night, dropping a five-set shootout 3-2 to Wabasso at Westbrook.
Wabasso won a wild first set 27-25, only to see WWG rally to win set two. Then, trailing two sets to one, the Chargers rallied in the fourth set, winning 25-23 to send the match to a fifth set.
In the fifth set, the Chargers took an early lead, but Wabasso roared back, eventually claiming the 15-13 win.
Halle Steen led the Chargers with two ace serves on 24-of-25 serving. Emma Wahl was 18-of-19 with an ace.
Alli VandeKieft, Madison Dennistoun and Camryn Bunting each fired nine kills for the Chargers. Bunting added three solo blocks.
Steen finished with 22 set assists and Wahl had a team-high 23 digs.
