7/31/2019 8:06:00 AM Three Pirates drafted for region playoffs
The Windom Pirates season may be over as a full team, but the season continues for three players who were drafted by the teams continuing in the Region 13C playoffs.
The four remaining teams in the playoffs each had the chance to draft one pitcher from a previously-eliminated team to bolster their rosters for the remainder of the playoffs into the state tournament. At the conclusion of the Region 13C tournament, the three teams advancing to the state tournament will each draft an additional two pitchers from previously-eliminated teams.
Collin Lovell was drafted first overall by top-seeded Milroy for the remainder of the Region 13C playoffs.
Pipestone pitcher Brandan Alfson was selected second overall by Luverne.
Pirate pitcher Kobe Lovell was taken third overall by Fairmont. And Pirate pitcher Luke Gilbertson was selected fourth overall by Hadley.
The Region 13C playoffs continue tonight with Fairmont playing at Milroy and Hadley playing at Luverne. Games begin at 7:30 p.m.
Game two of the best-of-three series between Fairmont and Milroy will be played Friday night in Fairmont. Game two between Hadley and Luverne will be played Saturday afternoon in Hadley.
The third game of each series, if necessary, will be played Sunday afternoon at Milroy and Luverne.
The winning team in each semifinal series automatically advances to the Class C State Tournament. The two teams will play next week to determine which team advances as the top seed out of the region and which team advances as the runner-up.
The losers of the two semifinal series will play a best-of-three series, beginning next week, to determine which team advances to the state tournament as the third seed out of the region.
