Eagle baseball falls to Trojans

Worthington 200 200 0 = 4-10-2
Windom 000 110 0 = 2-6-1

Missed opportunities plagued the Windom Eagle baseball team Tuesday as the Eagles fell 4-2 to Worthington at the Windom Recreation Area.

The Eagles put the leadoff runner on base in the first six innings but could not come up with hits at critical times. Windom left seven runners on base in the game, including six in scoring position. Worthington also turned a pair of double plays in the game, including a line-out double play that snuffed out a potential rally in the third inning.

Worthington built a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in both the first and fourth innings. The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Kyle Espenson scored on a wild pitch.

Then, in the sixth, Kobe Lovell hit an RBI sacrifice fly.

Eric Pfeffer and Conner Redman each had two hits for the Eagles.

Hunter Walklin took the tough pitching loss, firing a complete game. He allowed 10 hits and did not walk or strike out a batter.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey fell behind early and never recovered Tuesday, dropping a 6-0 decision to Edgerton/Southwest Christian at Edgerton.

The Wolverines had good scoring chances in the first two innings, but a line-drive double play ended the threat in the first and a groundout snuffed out the rally in the second.

ESWC got on the board in the bottom of the first, then sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring four runs in the second. The Dutchmen added a run in the third.

MLAC was held to five hits in the game.

Abe Stoesz took the pitching loss, allowing five runs on six hits in two innings. He walked two and struck out three.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove split a pair of one-run decisions Tuesday, falling 4-3 to Murray County Central before defeating Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in a split doubleheader at Lamberton.

In the opener, MCC did all its damage in the middle innings, taking the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.

The Falcons tried to battle back with a run in the seventh, but left the potential tying run on base.

Jonah Hansen and Austin Irlbeck each had two hits for the Falcons. Trenton Halvorson went 5-2/3 innings on the mound in the loss.

In the nightcap, RTR tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the sixth, but the Falcons earned a walk-off win on a Calvin Anderson RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

Anderson had two hits in the game. Mason Irlbeck added a two-run triple and scored three times. Irlbeck was also the winning pitcher, tossing a complete-game five-hitter.
