Eagles win twice, MLAC plays long ball in shutout over Cleveland

The Windom Eagles started fast and had a strong pitching performance Saturday, claiming a 6-0 victory over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City at the Windom Recreation Area.

The Eagles struck for three runs in the first, then added three insurance runs in the fifth. Meanwhile, two Eagle pitchers held the Falcons to five hits for the game.

In the first, Kobe Lovell hit an RBI single and two runs scored when Kyle Espenson reached on an error.

The Eagles maintained a 3-0 lead until the fifth, when Lovell hit an RBI triple and Espenson smashed a two-run triple.

Lovell and Connor Slette each had two hits in the win for the Eagles.

Kade Sammons earned the pitching victory, working the first 5-1/3 innings of shutout ball. He allowed four hits, walked five and struck out three. Hunter Walklin tossed 1-2/3 innings of one-hit relief.

St. James 000 000 0 = 0-4-1

The Windom Eagle baseball team pulled away in the middle innings Friday, claiming a 7-0 shutout win at St. James.

The Eagles got on the board in the top of the first on an Alex Borsgard RBI single. Then, in the fourth, Windom plated four runs. Kade Sammons, Tyler Zieske and Eric Pfeffer hit RBI singles and a run scored on an error.

Borsgard added an RBI single in the fifth and Kyle Espenson drove in a run with a groundout in the seventh.

Pfeffer, Conner Redman and Borsgard each had two hits in the win.

Kobe Lovell pitched four innings of one-hit relief to earn the pitching win. He walked four and struck out four.

Cleveland 000 00 = 0-5-3
MLAC 247 2x = 15-10-1

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey hit the ball hard all day, recording two home runs and five total extra-base hits on its way to a 15-0 victory over Cleveland at Comfrey.

MLAC jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Regan Syverson sacrifice fly and an Adam Karschnik RBI single.

In the second, Drake Harder belted a two-run home run, Zach Spinks added an RBI double and later scored on an error, giving MLAC a 6-0 lead.

The Wolverines put the game away in the third. Fletcher Hanson hit an RBI double, Brett Willaby plated a run with a groundout, Harder scored on an error, Syverson hit an RBI single and Karschnik launched a three-run home run, giving the Wolverines a 13-0 lead.

MLAC's final runs scored in the fourth on an Abe Stoesz RBI single and an error.

Stoesz and Karschnik each had two hits for the Wolverines.

Willaby earned the complete-game pitching win, scattering five hits, walking two and fanning six.
