Wolverines rally past Jaguars in playoff opener

MLAC 28-46 = 74

The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey boys basketball team opened the Section 2A playoffs Tuesday by scrapping its way to a 74-64 victory over Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain at Mt. Lake.

The Wolverines couldn't gain any separation in the first half, as a 7-0 run by the Jaguars to end the half tied the score at 28-28.

But MLAC began to pull away early in the second half. A pair of early buckets by Abraham Stoesz set the tone of the half early. Eli Samuelson hit a pair of key buckets, Sam Paulson scored in the lane and back-to-back Lucas Emineth three-pointers helped the Wolverines claim a 13-point lead.

T/ML/GHEC was able to cut the deficit back down to six points before the Wolverines pulled away late, as Stoesz and Samuelson combined to go 8-of-10 from the line in the second half.

Stoesz led the Wolverines with 20 points. Paulson added 19, Samuelson scored 17 and Emineth added 10 in the victory.
