Samuelson hits milestone as Wolverines pull away from RRC

RRC 21-25 = 46
MLAC 34-42 = 76

A late surge lifted Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey to a 76-46 victory Friday over Red Rock Central at Mt. Lake.

The Wolverines led by 13 at halftime, but RRC started the second half strong. A pair of Sam Helmer buckets cut the Wolverine lead to 44-40 with just over 10 minutes to play.

But MLAC finished the game strong, going on a 32-6 run to seal the victory. During the run, Wolverine senior Eli Samuelson scored the 1,000th point of his career, hitting a short-range jump shot. Samuelson finished with seven points in the game.

Abraham Stoesz led the Wolverines with 17 points. Sam Paulson scored 13 of his 14 points in the second half. Drake Harder had 10 of his 12 points in the first half. Lucas Emineth added 11 points in the Wolverine win.

Helmer and Noah Stavnes each scored 10 points to lead RRC. Spencer Halland added nine points and 10 rebounds.

WWG 27-29 = 56
Luverne 30-35 = 65

Westbrook-Walnut Grove fell behind and couldn't recover in the second half Saturday in a 65-56 loss at Luverne.

The Cardinals held a three-point halftime lead, then scored their last seven points from the free throw line to seal the game. Luverne went 10-of-17 from the line in the second half.

Parker Freeburg and Ethan Mischke each scored 12 points in the loss for WWG. Andrew Quade added 10 points.

WWG 35-29 = 64
Adrian 20-19 = 39

Westbrook-Walnut Grove was sharp on the defensive end Friday night, building a commanding lead on its way to a 64-39 win at Adrian.

The Chargers kept the Dragon offense in check, building a 15-point halftime lead. WWG continued its strong play in the second half, holding Adrian to 19 second-half points.

Parker Freeburg led WWG with 17 points. Andrew Quade added 13 points in the win.
