Eagle boys break scoring record in opening win
Fulda 32-42 = 74
Windom 45-62 = 107
The Windom Eagle boys basketball team opened the 2018-19 season in record-breaking fashion Thursday night, pouring in 62 second-half points on their way to a 107-74 victory over Fulda at Windom.
The 107 points scored by the Eagles broke the team record for points in a single game. The previous record of 106 came against Round Lake-Brewster in 2006.
The Eagles started the game strong on both ends of the floor. Windom's first four buckets of the season were three-pointers and the Eagle defense held Fulda without a field goal for the first seven minutes of the game.
Windom stretched its lead to 20 points early before Fulda rallied with three consecutive three-pointers, trimming the Eagle lead down to nine points. But Windom pulled away late in the first half, taking a 45-32 lead.
In the second half, the Eagle defense was sharp, creating numerous fast-break scoring opportunities, and Windom was hot from the outside, hitting 14 three-pointers in the game.
Kobe Lovell led the way for the Eagles, finishing with a career-high 37 points. Austin Doorenbos, in his varsity debut, hit six three-pointers and finished with 28 points. Eric Pfeffer added 16 points, Connor Slette scored 12 and Conner Redman added 10.
