Charger girls open with win

Madelia 19-36 = 55
WWG 34-28 = 62

Westbrook-Walnut Grove opened the girls basketball season in strong fashion, holding off a second-half rally to defeat Madelia 62-55 at Westbrook.

The Chargers raced to a 15-point halftime lead. Madelia battled back in the second half, hitting five three-pointers to close the gap.

But a balanced WWG attack in the second half helped propel the Chargers to victory, as WWG's defense clamped down in the closing minutes to preserve the win.

Grace Woelber led the Chargers with 28 points. Bethany Byers chipped in nine and Kelly Berglund and Brittany Erickson scored seven points each. Camryn Bunting pulled down 11 rebounds in the win.
