Windom 20-44 = 64 TMB 34-37 = 71 The Windom Eagle girls basketball team mounted a furious second-half rally, erasing a 14-point halftime deficit. But Tracy-Milroy-Balaton used an 8-0 run late in the game to regain control, eventually sealing a 71-64 win over the Eagles in the season-opener Tuesday at Tracy.
The Eagles struggled to find their offensive footing in the first half. The Panthers slowly stretched the lead to 10 points as the Eagle offense was stuck at five points for nearly 10 minutes. TMB eventually led 34-20 at halftime.
But in the second half, the Eagles came out firing. Windom hit five three-pointers early in the half. A 20-6 run tied the game at 40-40 and Windom eventually took a 48-45 lead.
But TMB answered, going on an 8-0 run to regain the lead, then used another burst to rebuild the lead back to double-digits before Windom closed the gap to seven in the final seconds.
Allison Letcher and Delaney Smith each scored 17 points to lead the Eagles. Shelby Erickson added seven points in the loss.
RRC 27-23 = 50 Springfield 31-20 = 51 Red Rock Central's rallied in the closing minutes Tuesday night, but a final shot for the victory fell short as the Falcons took a 51-50 season-opening loss at Springfield.
RRC trailed 31-27 at halftime, but battled to take the lead with just over nine minutes to go on a three-pointer by Nicole Schroepfer.
The Tigers rallied to take a 50-44 lead with under four minutes to play. The Falcons rallied to within a point, but a late free throw for the Tigers sealed the victory.
Haley Simonson led the Falcons with 23 points. Schroepfer and Kaitlyn Rindfleisch each added eight points.
