Windom at Section 3A Meet Girls Thursday's Section 3A Meet in Luverne proved to be the ultimate redemption for Windom sophomore Gracie Bucher.
On the same course where she collapsed 50 meters from the finish line two years ago, Bucher captured her first career berth in the Class A State Cross Country Meet, finishing 12th overall with a time of 20:36.
Bucher was 11 seconds from capturing a section medal, which went to the top eight finishers. But she was one of the top eight individuals who were not among the two state-qualifying teams, finishing three seconds ahead of the final state qualifier.
Bucher's performance led the Eagle girls to a 10th-place finish in the team standings with 287 points. Luverne won the section title with 51 points while Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd took second with 99.
Jadyn Wormstadt added a 50th-place time of 22:32, followed closely by Mikalah Konz in 54th (22:42). Emma Holtz placed 70th (23:25) and Lily Mellstrom was 123rd (32:02).
Boys Windom's boys placed ninth in the team standings, scoring 287 points. LQPV/DB won the section title with 31 points. Redwood Valley advanced to state as the runner-up with 83 points.
The Eagle boys were led by Cameron Alm, who finished 39th with a time of 18:32. He was followed closely by Hunter Walklin in 41st (18:33) and Patrick Green in 51st (18:51). Jacob Green, making his varsity debut, placed 74th (19:35) and Chance Elness finished 83rd (19:51).
MLA at Section 3A Meet Boys The Mt. Lake Area boys have two runners who advanced to the state meet after strong finishes at the Section 3A Meet Thursday in Luverne.
Senior Dalton Piotter finished in a dead heat with Rory Shackleford of Yellow Medicine East for sixth place, individually, with identical times of 17:10.0. And senior Ryan Blomgren captured the final individual qualifying position, taking 15th overall with a time of 17:26.0. He finished 0.3 seconds ahead of Ortonville's Nathan Neu for the final state spot.

MLA's boys finished seventh in the team standings with 194 points. Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd won the section title with 31 points. Redwood Valley was second with 83.
Sam Pidde added a 48th-place time of 18:47, followed by Emilio Garcia de la Cruz in 55th (19:03) and Caden Swoboda in 69th (19:32).
Girls The MLA girls finished eighth in the team standings at the Section 3A Meet, scoring 243 points. Luverne won the section title with 51 points. LQPV/DB was second with 99 points.
Individually, Anika Fast led the Wolverines, placing 40th with a time of 21:56. She was followed by Haily Green in 42nd (22:14), Riley Schroeder in 46th (22:29), Mercedes Saengosoth in 51st (22:34) and Tiegan Meyer in 74th (23:47).
