Windom senior Elder inks letter of intent
Windom senior Kaden Elder has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of South Dakota, where he will compete on the track and field team.
Elder, the son of Erin and Terri Elder of Windom, plans to compete in the hammer throw at USD.
Hammer throw is not an event in high school track and field meets and Elder has not been a member of the Windom High School track and field team. But he competes in numerous Junior Olympic meets in the event through the spring and summer.
Last summer, Elder finished 14th at the USATF National Junior Olympic championships, held at Lawrence, Kan., with a throw of 48.68 meters, or 159 feet, 8 inches. Elder broke the USATF Junior Olympic Minnesota record at the state meet with a throw of 50.87 meters, which is nearly 167 feet.
