Wolverine boys win JCC Invite, Eagles fourth
The Mt. Lake Area boys cross country team made a major statement Thursday afternoon at the Loon Lake Golf Course near Jackson, surging to the title at the Jackson County Central Invitational.
MLA finished with 49 points, edging perennial area power Worthington, which finished with 51 points. Windom's boys finished fourth with 142 points.
In the girls' race, MLA finished seventh with 151 points while Windom's girls ran with an incomplete team. Martin County West won the team title with 61 points.
Individually in the boys race, MLA senior Nathan Runck blew away the field to capture first place, finishing in a time of 17:17. That was 35 seconds faster than race runner-up Grant Strukel of Blue Earth.
MLA's Dalton Piotter added a fourth-place time of 18:02, followed by Ryan Blomgren in ninth (18:38), Emilio Garcia de la Cruz in 12th (18:58) and Josiah Gardiner in 23rd (20:04).
Windom's boys were led by Patrick Green, who finished 19th (19:46). Daniel Green was 22nd (20:00), followed by Daniel Pastrnak in 29th (20:42), Gil Parent in 33rd (21:01) and Noah Kloss in 46th (22:00).
In the girls race, Windom freshman Gracie Bucher led the Eagles with a fourth-place time of 22:16. She was followed by Eliana Tade in 14th (24:04), Jordyn Alm in 15th (24:30) and Jadyn Wormstadt in 19th (24:59).
MLA was led by Kate Janzen, who finished 22nd (25:06). Anika Fast placed 28th (25:53), followed by Sara Quiring in 37th (27:16), Aura Spry in 40th (27:38) and Jordan Wright in 44th (28:24).
