7/12/2013 7:27:00 AM Schlomann resigns as wrestling coach
After serving 11 years in the Cobra wrestling program as an assistant coach, co-head coach and head coach, Brad Schlomann submitted his resignation from his co-head coaching position. The move will be approved on the consent agenda at Monday's Windom school board meeting.
Schlomann helped guide the Cobras to the State Wrestling Tournament in 2008 and 2012 and was an assistant coach for state tournament appearances in 2002 and 2003.
Earlier in the year, Schlomann had offered to serve as co-head coach for the 2013-14 season with Nick Kulseth. Kulseth will remain as a co-head coach and will share duties with Travis Elg, who will be hired at Monday's school board meeting.
Kulseth and Elg were both instrumental parts of the Cobras' state tournament teams in 2002 and 2003, with each winning three individual state championships in their high school careers. Kulseth was recruited to wrestle at South Dakota State University, but a series of injuries derailed his collegiate wrestling career. Meanwhile, Elg wrestled at Minnesota State University-Mankato, where he was a multiple-time Division II All-American. Elg currently sits atop the Cobra career wins list, with Kulseth a close second.
Kulseth has served the past two seasons as an assistant coach in the Cobra wrestling program. Elg had served the past couple of seasons as an assistant in the St. James High School wrestling program.
